ADAMA announced on May 6 that its novel fungicide active ingredient Gilboa™ has been classified as having a unique mode of action for cereal crops by the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC) under CropLife International. This marks a significant breakthrough by ADAMA in managing disease resistance in the field of crop protection. Gilboa™ is the trade name for flumetylsulforim. This novel mode of action in cereals targets nucleic acid metabolism, a biochemical pathway that has never previously been used in cereal disease control. It provides effective protection against key diseases in cereals and oilseed rape, including septoria and sclerotinia, offering European farmers a powerful tool for managing disease resistance. Trial data shows that a single application of Gilboa™ effectively controls septoria in wheat for up to 35 days. It also helps preserve over 70 percent of the flag leaf area as green for a longer period after treatment, contributing to higher yields. Gilboa™ was submitted for registration in 2023 and is expected to receive approval in the UK in 2027 and in the European Union (EU) in 2029, with further registrations planned for additional countries. ADAMA plans to carry out field tests in the UK in June 2025, inviting customers to witness the technical performance of Gilboa™ firsthand. |
